Oaks Rugby recently invited a number of children with Special Educational Needs to attend our club to partake in a days rugby with the assistance of Devon RFU and support of Devon Wooden Spoon. Over 80 children turned up and had a fantastic time in the sunshine enjoying a sport most of them had never been involved with before.

This is just the start of a much bigger project called Rugby Inclusive.

This is a new incentive that is being rolled out at our club with a view to creating a working model that then can be used by other clubs around the county and country. This is a great opportunity for these children to integrate with mainstream children away from school in a community and sporting environment on a regular basis.

Club Chairman Nigel Higginson said "This is a project that has been a long time in the making. You could see how much the children enjoyed their rugby experience on the day and the opportunity to be the first club in the country to run such a programme is fantastic. I am also hoping that the children's parents will also take the opportunity to engage with the club and enjoy the benefits of a new social environment that Rugby Inclusive is hoping to promote".
