Plymstock Oaks RFC marked a significant milestone last week as the club officially launched its new Women’s T1 Rugby programme, drawing an impressive 24 women to the very first session at Horsham Playing Fields. The initiative represents a major step forward in the club’s mission to widen access to rugby for women and girls across the community.

The opening session introduced women of all ages and abilities to T1 Rugby, a fast‑growing, non‑contact format designed to be fun, inclusive, and beginner‑friendly. For many attendees, it was their first ever experience of rugby and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

“Tonight showed exactly why we wanted to launch T1 Rugby,” said Lead Women's Coach, Greg Simmons. “It’s welcoming, it’s supportive, and it gives women a chance to try rugby in a way that feels safe, social, and genuinely enjoyable.”

Coaches led the group through movement‑based warm‑ups, simple passing drills and teamwork challenges, all designed to build confidence and connection. By the end of the hour, the pitch was full of smiles, laughter, and new friendships.

Following the success of the launch, Plymstock Oaks are inviting even more women to join. Whether you’re looking to get active, meet new people, or simply try something different, the club promises a warm welcome and a supportive environment.

The Women’s T1 Rugby programme is part ofPlymstock Oaks’ wider commitment to expanding opportunities for women and girls in rugby. With strong early interest and a brilliant first turnout, the club is excited to see the group grow week by week.
